JOB SUMMARY
This is a technical role requiring excellent knowledge of network topologies and SQL Server infrastructure. The role covers all areas of support for the companies underlying network infrastructure, and includes some SQL Server administration.
Main duties:
• SQL Server services to the company including: -
o Effective management of maintenance plans for all “LIVE” databases including: -
Regular and timely back-ups
Restore services (when required)
Management of database size
o Effective load planning for future database growth
o Appropriate hosting of a secure and robust SQL Database environment
o Understanding of SQL reporting services
• Monitoring of server and network infrastructure including: -
o Implementation of a suitable monitoring strategy
o Reviewing server logs and interpreting incidents
o Develop systems to maintain and manage server incidents
o Maintain and report effectively to the Systems Services Manager incidents on servers that may cause business disruptions
o Maintain adequate space on all servers and be pro-active in intercepting storage issues
o Provide the correct network environment including monitoring pinch points in network switching equipment
• Maintaining the server room environment include managing future expansion requirements
• Provide / manage redundancy measures of IT servers including UPS control, back-up power
• Assist the Systems Services Manager in the maintenance of an IT Disaster Recovery Plan
• Communication management including: -
o Working with third parties in the provision of the appropriate data connectivity
o Monitoring connections from remote working users to provide statistics of usage
o Manage a strategy to deliver the future data connectivity for the business
o Assist the Systems Services manager with audits
• Responsibility for systems and user level virus protection
• System level support of all Mail services for the business
• System level support for all File and Print services for the business
• Working with Systems Services Manager maintain security of the IT infrastructure including: -
o Exchange virus and content filtering
o Firewall maintenance and monitoring
o ISP management including external DNS
o Enforce protection to prevent an external malicious attack
o Review by using 3rd parties our network security on a regular basis
REQUIRED SKILLS
Preference will be given to candidates with experience of the following:
• Network Switches, routers / routing, Enterprise class storage solutions & networking topologies
• Email messaging, Exchange 2010, email archiving & storage
• Firewalls, VPN, token authentication, web monitoring & internet security
• Telephony – terrestrial & mobile, call recording & monitoring
• Disaster recovery & business continuity, user access gateway & backup solutions
• SQL 2005 / 2008
