LowC conducted an energy audit at our head office to highlight the most important activities that need to be undertaken to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.
Since the audit we have drawn up an action plan with a detailed list of initiatives and measures that will target annual reductions of approximately 10% of this carbon footprint year on year. During the year we have met this targeted reduction and have reduced our carbon footprint by 98 metric tonnes of CO2. Energy consumption at Head Office reduced by 56 kWh/m2. In addition annual water consumption levels for our head office are currently 1895 m3. It is anticipated that further savings can also be made in future years by the continuation of the efficiency programme. Savings have been targeted by the introduction of:
- variable speed drives on pumps and fans
- car parking lighting control strategy
- perimeter lighting
- PIR sensors in toilets
- Photocells in staircases
- Office luminaries
- Voltage optimisation unit
- Spots in the entry lobby
In addition at Head Office we have also introduced the following:
- Paper recycling
- IT and electrical goods disposed of in line with WEEE (The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Regulations)
- 100% recycling of toner cartridges at Head Office
- Use of crockery and cutlery expanded to reduce use of disposables
- a ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme
We continue to investigate the use of:
- Environmentally friendly packaging for staff restaurant
- Evironmentally friendly disposal of cardboard
