In February five local bands came together to rock the night away and raise much needed funds for St.Catherine’s Hospice.
The BAND Aid style event was organised by Crawley’s answer to Bob Geldoff - Carl Brooks. Carl praised the efforts of Mick Page and the rest of his band Redfish who helped him organise the event. “It was very much a team effort because something this big takes a lot of organising.”
The event gave the opportunity for student band ‘Dance Romeo’ to play their first gig in Crawley alongside diehards like ‘Henry’s Head’ who reformed to play this gig.
The seven-piece band ‘The Nite B4s’ added a splash of comedy to their set before the Dormans Youth Club band ‘Gossops Green’ took to the stage to play their second ever gig. “We were amazed by the response of the audience.” Commented Gossops Green.
Among the revellers were the Mayor Brenda Burgess and her husband Consort Bob Burgess, “I loved every minute of the night and can’t wait for the next one.” Mayor Burgess also praised the service.
Other local dignitary’s getting down with the rock was MP Laura Moffatt and her husband who seemed to enjoy the night.
The band Redfish Biteback played classic rock covers that sent the audience wild at the end of the night. “I seriously thought the roof was going to come down with it all.” Said Carl Brooks.
Landlord Zamir Butt was very pleased with the turn out for the event. “It’s always a thrill to see the community coming together for a good cause.”
Michael Beasley from St.Catherine’s Hospice thanked Carl Brooks for all his hard work and said that the £800 raised on the night would go a long way to helping continue to deliver their specialised end-of-life care.
The Apple Tree boasts one of the best curry restaurants in Crawley with home cooked authentic Indian cuisine. Zamir has successfully combined one of our great British traditions ‘a pint and a curry’ under one roof in a cosy traditional bar.
